Nana Dan Amakye Dede is one of Ghana’s premier highlife artists and maestro in Ghana. Amakye Dede, popularly known, has contributed enormously to the highlife genre in Ghana. He is affectionately called ‘Iron Boy’, ‘Abrantie’ (Gentleman), to name a few accolades. 

Amakye Dede began his career in 1973 when he joined the Kumapim Royals as a composer and vocalist. The band was led by the legendary highlife singer Akwasi Ampofo Agyei (AAA) of blessed memory. The band was known for its uniqueness and exploits as they performed all around the country and beyond. Their splendid performances had hits like Abebi Bewua Eso, Wanware Me A, Odo Mani Agyina and the seminal Ohohoo Batani.

Amakye Dede then moved to Nigeria, where he continued with his musical talent, which led to his hit song ‘Jealousy go shame’, taking over the airwaves.
He then formed his band, the Apollo High Kings, in 1980. He dominated the highlife scene in the ’80s, ’90s and continues to have hit songs in the 21st century.
He has almost 20 albums to his credit. He experimented with different genres; soca, Calypso, lovers rock and pop music.
He owns a very popular bar in Accra called Abrantee Spot, where he helps celebrate live-band music.
Some of his famous songs include Handkerchief, Seniwa, Brebrebe Yi, Mensuro, Mabre, Broken Promises, No Amuna, Sokoo na mmaa pe, Kose Kose, Dabi Dabi, Mefre wo, Okyena sesei, Odo nfonii, Nka akyi, M’ani Agyina, To be a man na war, etc
Amakye Dede was installed as a sub-chief at Agogo Asante Akim traditional area as Nana Abrantie Amakye Dede Okyiridomhene.
